Africa
In October 2009, Elizabeth and I visited the town of Bulembu, Swaziland with a group from the International Community Church. We spent the following week in South Africa in and around Capetown. The full story is on my blog.

The orphans of Tran Bulgaria
Fri 13 Apr 2007 12:58:47 PM MDTIn April 2007, Young Life, a Christ-centered youth organization, brought 185 high school students to Bulgaria to perform service projects for local orphanages. I accompanied a group who were assigned to an orphange called Tran (or Trun). The second day we were there, a Bulgarian television news program aired a program about Tran, characterising it as 'the worst orphange in Bulgaria.' Although reasonably well fed, the kids in Tran have very little to look forward to in life. They receive amazingly poor treatment, and live in appalling conditions. Although a great deal of money has been donated to these institutions by European and American charities, little or none seems to have reached these kids.
